Oil Field
In the oil field, Leonardite is better known as “Lignite” and is predominantly used in water - based drilling mud. The colloidal and soluble properties of "Lignite" help in fluid loss control, serve as clay deflocculants and improve filter cake quality. "Lignite" can be blended with caustic soda, and because of its unique organophilic properties Leonardite, or "Lignite", can also be modified for use in oil-based drilling fluids.

Agriculture
Our Source™ line of products is used as a soil amendment and fertilizer additive. Leonardite adds organic matter to marginal soils improving texture, moisture holding capacity and pH stability. As a fertilizer enhancement, Leonardite improves a crop’s ability to absorb nutrients, resulting in faster growth, healthier and higher yields.

Foundry
Foundries use Leonardite as an additive in green sand molding. It reduces clay viscosity, increases mold permeability, absorbs and retains water and improves mold shakeout. The use of Leonardite in green sand systems also improves the foundry environment for workers.

Soil Remediation
Leonardite is used for soil remediation with great success. Sodic and calcareous soils benefit greatly from the organic matter Leonardite adds to soil. Leonardite provides ideal conditions for "good" bacteria to grow.
